Command Sergeant Major Michael J. Parker is has been with SC Youth Challenge Academy since the implementation of the program in July 1998. He has had several positions while employed with the academy to include: Team Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Senior Team Leader, First Sergeant (Assistant Commandant), and now Commandant of the cadets.
Prior to his employment at the SC Youth Challenge Academy, CSM Parker was employed at the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) for 5 years. He serviced in the United States Army for 23 years (Ret). CSM Parker held the title of a Drill Sergeant while trained young soldiers as they prepared for war with hopes they returned home to their families safely. During the 18 years of being employed at the SC Youth Challenge Academy, CSM Parker has been given the opportunity of preparing youth ages 16-18-year-old, meet the challenges of life.
